A new crop of Summer Company students ready themselves for a busy summer

The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre is pleased to announce that thirteen secondary and post-secondary students have been chosen to participate in this year’s Summer Company program.

The Summer Company program helps students start a summer business and gain valuable experience as an entrepreneur. Offered in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, this program provides entrepreneurial training, mentorship and grants of up to $3,000.

Our thirteen participants form a very diverse group. They were chosen from a mix of secondary and post-secondary schools throughout Windsor and Essex County. They will not just dip their toes into the waters of entrepreneurship but will be fully immersed in programming geared toward ensuring lasting success long after the summer ends.

A busy summer awaits this year’s cohort. Like in years past, they will have hands-on training in marketing, bookkeeping, client relations and sales to name a few. They will not only actively work on their businesses while at home but they will be given a boost and be able to practice their skills by participating in local markets and receive guidance in the form of mentorship from local business professionals.

Be on the look out this summer as we celebrate their achievements in the months to come. Our students are encouraged to use their creativity and build a business model on something they love. Throughout the coming months they will be working diligently on a variety of ventures as diverse as the students themselves. Businesses include a home-based bakery, retail pet portrait memorabilia, website development services, lawncare, beauty product manufacturing, henna art, vendor food services, fashion design, retail crochet products, window cleaning, car detailing services and custom label design.

To learn more about our program you are welcome to view the Summer Company tab on our website. Also be sure to subscribe and like our social media channels on TwitterInstagram and Facebook to stay up-to-date on our programs and our intrepid young entrepreneurs.
