Hiatus House has been providing shelter and community services and supports to women and their families to heal and strengthen, in support of them living empowered lives free of abuse throughout Windsor-Essex since 1976. They also deliver the Neighbours Friends and Family education program to help people learn about the signs of IPV and keep potential victims/survivors and their children safe.

In Ontario, there are 35 reported femicides between November 26, 2023, and June 30, 2024. Thirty-one of these women were known to the person who killed them. Together we can prevent violence toward women and femicide by knowing the risks and how to plan for safety. This became something too real for those of us living and working in Windsor-Essex on June 20th when we learned about Carly Walsh and her children. We urge you to talk and learn about violence toward women, thus making your workplace a safe place where these conversations can begin.
